- Put on mackintosh apron and groves
- Note quantity, colour and sediments
- Smell urine for odour
- Measure specific gravity of urine.
- Read instructions on reagent bottle
- Pick one strip of reagent and dip into urine
- Remove strip immediately and tap the edge of strip against side of urine container.
- Read pH of urine immediately
- Compare test area closely with the corresponding colour chart on bottle
- Discard items used according to infection prevention guidelines
- Wash and dry hands
- Record and report findings
