TESTING THE URINE OF A PREGNANT WOMAN FOR SUGAR/PROTEIN

  1. Put on mackintosh apron and groves
  2. Note quantity, colour and sediments
  3. Smell urine for odour
  4. Measure specific gravity of urine.
  5. Read instructions on reagent bottle
  6. Pick one strip of reagent and dip into urine
  7. Remove strip immediately and tap the edge of strip against side of urine container.
  8. Read pH of urine immediately
  9. Compare test area closely with the corresponding colour  chart on bottle
  10. Discard items used according to infection prevention guidelines
  11. Wash and dry hands
  12. Record and report findings
